Five O'clock Shadow

It started with the first round of chemo. Those dark "liver splotches" that just popped up over night. Like old age smearing itself onto the surface of her baby bottomed skin. On the top of her hands. Splattered here and there. Tiny little kool-aid stains. Chemo stains. Over the last few weeks they have faded. Or maybe we just got used to them, and in their familiarity... they disappeared.

She's never worn her wig. Beautiful in her hippie bandana, she's never needed to. And it's HOT here in Florida! And she's hidden from the Sun, the warming, cleansing, healing Sun that she adores... except for Saturday. When she and Butch drove to the beach.... to the "place" where they fell in love, celebrated milestones and tragedies.... to the "place" where they became we... so many times. They slurpped up butter soaked scallops and guzzled ice cold beer, and Kimbies leaned just so..... into the Sun!

And then it began.
The reverse tan.
The tattle tale shadow under her bandana......

She scrubbed.
And scrubbed.

And finally....asked Butch to look. Her whole noggin was kool-aid stained. Bless his heart. He had to put his glasses on. And adjust her head just so. Examine his beautiful wife's stained crown, and somehow make her feel better.

"IT'S HAIR!"

"STOP SCRUBBING IT!"

We are feeling the healing. Thank you all!!

With every round of chemo, there's seems to be another round unknowns becoming known...
loosing hair & then
the peach fuzzy 5 o clock shadow of round 2
the intense eggshell feeling of life & now,
the baby soft skin
But one thing remains the same... Kim is a trooper and an angel, pulling herself up & through all of these unknowns ... letting us know & always reminding us that there are children...

Wonderful news and so exciting for you, Butch and all!!! This is one 5 o'clock shadow you won't shave!!!
Just lather her up and stare and feel it, pat it,rub it gently, take pictures and rinse.
Soon you'll need the golden brush!!! Thank the Lord, Kim.
Bless you and I love you!!

There's a whole collection of hats in a box here--keeping company the bandanna's that covered my head.

;-)

I don't have 'bad hair days' today.
Granted, the hair came back straighter than a board and reddish blonde--used to be auburn and curlier than all get out.
It's hair, it's mine, and I smile when I go to tame it in the morning.

Funny how losing it gives perspective on having it, eh?

*sending peacefilled, hopefilled prayers*

Mel ~ what an inspiration! Mother nature can do things that no beautician could even begin to attempt. I know your strawberry blonde hair is beautiful, just as you are, even in bandana's!
....feeling the peace & love~Thank You!
